Obituary for James G. Thomas

James G. Thomas
STILLWATER - James G. Thomas, 82, of Claremont Rd, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on December 5th, with his loving and faithful wife Helen at his side. Born in Waterford on August 28, 1936, he was the son of the late Russell and Christine Goldsmith Thomas.
Jim graduated from Stillwater High School and also received his Associates degree from HVCC and later his Bachelors degree from SUNY after studying Geography and Urban Planning. He proudly served in the US Army from 1957-60 with the ASA, stationed in Africa.
Upon returning home from the service, Jim began his career with NY Telephone(Verizon) where he worked as an installer for over 30 years before retiring in the early 90’s. He joined the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association in 2004 and volunteered on the Friday squad for 13 years, something he was extremely proud of.
A master woodworker, he also enjoyed his garden, being outdoors and was an avid golfer. He volunteered his craftsmanship to many others, especially the Stillwater Free Library.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen Paris Thomas, whom he married on December 23, 1957, his two sons James(Tami) Thomas of Eagle River, AK and Randall Thomas of Tampa, FL, grandchildren James Jr and Kaitlin Thomas and a brother Russell Thomas.
Calling hours will be held at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118 on Monday, Dec. 10th from 12 - 1:30PM with a service to begin at 1:30PM. Full military honors and inurnment will follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:30PM.
