John V Fascia
HALFMOON - John V. “Peepers” Fascia, 87, died Monday morning, Nov 6th at Schuyler Ridge, after an extended illness.
Born in Mechanicville, Oct 27, 1930, son of the late Mike and Rosa Fascia, John was a 1949 graduate of Mechanicville High School. John served with the US Army in Korea, discharges in 1953.
A Postal Clerk with the Clifton Park Post Office for over 20 years and previously had worked for the Ford Tractor Co in Latham for 10 years.
John in his youth got his nickname due to his love of cameras. A Boston Red Sox fan, a member of the Mechanicville Athletic Club, he enjoyed playing gin rummy, and loved to socialize with lifelong friends.
He loved cooking Italian delicacies for his family and friends. But mostly, he enjoyed the company of his wife, children, and especially his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Eleanor Bell Fascia, children: Johna Jo (Jason) Bittner of Niskayuna, Julia L. Sheremeta of Saratoga Springs, Anne Sheremeta of Guilderland, Paul (Patrisia) Sheremeta of Troy and Peter (Maria) Sheremeta of Loudonville. Grandchildren: Katie Darwak, Gillian, Emily and Zachary Sheremeta and great grandkids Raven, Riley and Lillian. Also a sister Ann Forino and sister-in-law Ann Fascia both of Mechanicville, along with nieces, nephews and their families.
John was predeceased by his brother Louis Fascia.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery to follow.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Thursday from 4-7 PM.
