Obituary for Nicholas R, Iavarone Jr.

Nicholas R, Iavarone Jr.
MECHANICVILLE - Nicholas R. Iavarone, Jr., 59, died Thursday, May 18th at Albany Medical Center, after succumbing to injuries, doing what he loved most, working on one of his many properties in his hometown. The City of Mechanicville lost a wonderful community spirited family man who had a passion to rehabilitate, renovate and restore a house to its former glory. He saw good in everyone and everything, including old abandoned houses that others had given up on. The most pleasure was working with his father to restore these homes and then with his son by his side. Yet, as busy as he was, he took time to know all of his tenants and neighbors, meeting the needs of many individuals. Saratoga County acknowledged Nick as an award winning rehab specialist.

Born in Troy, Oct. 24, 1957, son of the late Nicholas R. and Domenica “Mae” Iavarone, Sr., Nick was a 1977 graduate of Mechanicville High School. Also a 25 year member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks #1403.
A chemical operator for Momentive and previously G.E. Silicones in Waterford for 30 years, Nick recently talked about retiring from his job in the fall of this year. He had plans and dreams, often talking about his future agenda, which always included family - the most important aspect of his life.
Nick enjoyed the simple things in life, like his daily coffee stops at Stewarts, where he was always greeted by friends.
A well respected landlord, who had the patience of a saint, Nick enjoyed being busy, working on each new project, enjoyed traveling in his motor home, and was dedicated to his wife, children, siblings and their families. He will be remembered for his countless acts of compassion and patience. He instilled a family legacy and this will live on in all of us. He was a member of All Saints on the Hudson Church.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Susan Starks Iavarone (as Nick fondly referred to as Suzie/Mach), children: Nicholas R. Iavarone, III who along with his beloved future daughter-in-law Stephanie Schiffer, were to present Nick’s first grandchild this November. Daughter Bobbie Jo Marchione, loving siblings: Patricia (James) Maynard of Ballston Lake, Nancy (James) Macy of Latham, Theresa Pratico of Mechanicville, Linda (Stephen) Amadon of Rensselaer, Tina Iavarone of Mechanicville, Salvatore (Doris) Iavarone of Halfmoon and Stephen Iavarone of Saratoga Springs. Also survived by in-laws, Marjorie & John Aldrich and Robert & Jean Starks, who Nick had the utmost respect. Nick was a proud uncle, survived by his nieces and nephews and respected by his cousins and their families. He instilled in his nieces and nephews his positive energy, encouraging them always, wanting them to feel valued, to make a difference, telling them what great satisfaction they will feel in “doing a good job”, instilling his positive attitude and always encouraging them to “do the right thing”. On Nick’s behalf all that loved him will carry on his passion and share this with the grand nieces and nephews in his life and future grandbaby. With Nick’s passion for life, we thank the Albany Medical Center, Center For Donation & Transplant, who succeeded in honoring Nick’s request of donating his organs to help those in need.
Nick also left behind his two feline friends, Rust and Angel.
In addition to his parents, also predeceased by his brother-in-law Phil Pratico.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 North Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at All Saints on the Hudson Church on Tuesday from 4 - 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a scholarship fund to be set up at Mechanicville High School, to a deserving graduate in the field of building trades. Those memorials may be sent to the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville, 12118.
