MECHANICVILLE - Joseph J. Gander, 60, of South Third Ave., died unexpectedly on Sunday April 2nd, after a short illness. Born in Albany, June 27, 1956, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rita Stevens Gander.
A 1974 graduate of Vincentian Institute High School, Joe then attended SUNY Utica and received his bachelors degree in Criminal Justice in 1978. He worked as a sergeant with the Albany County Sheriffs Office for 32 years before retiring in September 2015. Affectionately known as “JJ” by his coworkers, at home he was a very tech savvy guy who enjoyed electronics, particularly Facebook on his computer.
Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen Carbone Gander, whom he married on May 26, 1984, sisters Ronnie(Fred) Bockis and Carol(Charlie) Buckley, mother and father in law, Kathryn Carbone and Joseph Carbone and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Martha Green.
A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday April 6th at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY with interment to follow at Hudson View Cemetery. There will be no calling hours prior to the service.
