MECHANICVILLE - Joseph R. Izzo, 72, former resident of Mechanicville, died Monday Oct. 20th, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, after an extended illness.
Born in Troy, April 4, 1942, son of the late Salvatore and Anna Iacobelli Izzo, Joe was a in 1960 graduate of Mechanicville High School. While a student of MHS, Joe excelled in sports, point guard and captain of a championship basketball team, star pitcher and rangy infielder in baseball.
An officer manager for many years with Clemente-Latham Concrete in Troy, Joe retired a number of years ago, and had last lived in Cohoes.
A devoted father and grandfather, Joe beamed with pride at the mention of his family.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Gina and Tom O’Conner of Mount Kisco, granddaughters Sophia and Hannah O’Conner, his ex-wife and friend Patricia Izzo of Schenectady, sister and brother-in-law Gloria and David Kenyon of So. California, nephews David and Brian Kenyon, along with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his aunts Mary Sue and Michelina Iacobelli, who treated their nephew as their own.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 23rd at 2 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
A gathering will be held Thursday from 1 PM until the 2 PM service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the American Heart or Diabetes Assoc’s in memory of Joseph R. Izzo.
