MECHANICVILLE – George F. “Boogie” Neaton, 73, former longtime resident of Hemstreet Park, died Saturday, Sept. 11th at Fort Hudson Nursing Ctr, Fort Edward, after an extended illness.
Born in Hemstreet Park, Mechanicville, March 7, 1937, son of the late Charles and Wilma Wade Neaton, George and his wife moved to Fort Edward in 1986.
A master mechanic with the General Electric’s Silicone Products Division in Waterford for 20 years, retiring in 1999. He previously had been a union iron worker in the construction field, also Alleghany Ludlum Steel and Sage’s Garage of Mechanicville.
George served with the US Navy from 1956-60.
A sportsman, George loved to hunt and fish, including ice fishing and also boating.
An easy going guy, George was always helpful with family and friends, and had a quick wit and friendly nature.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Elizabeth Pitcheralle Neaton, whom he married October 19th, 1960. A daughter Hilma (Steve) Elwell Wolf of Detroit, Mi., and sons John (Andrea) Elwell of New Jersey, Charles (Kelly) Neaton of Stillwater, Joseph Neaton of Ft. Edward, Mark (Dana) Neaton of Malta, grandchildren: Mackie and Jona Elwell, Jaime, Emily, Natalie, Taylor Anne and Michael Wade Neaton, a great grandson Connor Hovey and nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday evening at 7 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville.
Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.
Interment at the Saratoga National Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 17th.
