Obituary for Aaron R. Olah

BALLSTON SPA – 1st Class Petty Officer Aaron R. Olah, 27, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Tunkhannock, PA on March 11, 1986, he was the son of Kevin Olah and Lisa Caterson, Mark Caterson and Kristina Olah, all of Montrose, PA. A 2004 graduate of Montrose Area High School, he attended Bloomsburg University before enlisting in the US Navy, serving as an Electronics Technician aboard the USS Florida (SSGN-728) during the Global War against Terrorism. A Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator, he was stationed in Kings Bay, GA and was deployed to the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans. Aaron was very proud and dedicated to his service in the Navy. Aaron’s family was first and foremost in his life. Very active in sports, Aaron enjoyed golf, basketball, and was a huge NY Giants fan. He was also a great cook, especially of gourmet foods. Aaron found a passion in following political events, debates and trivia. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Jolyne Urkevich Olah, whom he married June 26, 2010 and his beautiful daughter Brielle, his brother, 1st Class Petty Officer Jared Olah, of Virginia Beach, VA, stationed in Norfolk with the Navy, his sister Shauna, and brother-in-law, Chris Carlson, of Watervliet, NY and sister, McKenzie Olah, of Montrose, his in-laws Joseph and Kathleen Urkevich, brother-in-law, David Urkevich, of Ballston Spa, NY, as well as several grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 14 from 10AM – 12:15PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118 with a service to follow at 12:30PM, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery. It is encouraged that in lieu of flowers, contributions are made to support Aaron’s daughter Brielle Olah, C/O DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118.
