Obituary for Frances H. Leonard (Yaksta)

MECHANICVILLE – Frances Helen Leonard, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, after a valiant battle with a long illness. She was born on February 4, 1947, and through her 77 years, she embodied strength, compassion, and an unyielding zest for life.

Frances is predeceased by her mother and father, Joseph A. and Helen Yaksta; her brother, Joseph X. Yaksta and sister, Joan Gemmitti. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Leonard; her children, Robert Leonard (Jessica), Michael Leonard (Jennifer), and Lori Burdo (Craig); and her nine grandchildren, Allison Leonard, Kaylie Leonard, Brody Burdo, Madelyn Leonard, Sierra Leonard, Kaden Burdo, Raelin Leonard, Aubrey Burdo and Penny Leonard. She also leaves behind her sister, Mary Ellen DeMarco (Buckie), and her brother, Edward Yaksta (Viola).

A lover of life, Frances enjoyed snowbirding in Florida, boating, camping by the river, and dining out. She was always the first to suggest a cup of Stewarts Iced Coffee. Despite her health challenges, she never complained and faced life’s difficulties with grace and positivity.

Frances will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and resilience will forever resonate with her family and friends.

Calling hours will be held at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home in Mechanicville, on Wednesday, May 15th from 12 - 2PM, followed by a short funeral home service. Burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Gateway House of Peace. Visit www.devito-salvadorefh.com to leave condolences, make donations, share messages and photos, or for directions.
