Obituary for William J. Russell Sr.

STILLWATER – William John Russell. Sr., 80 of Russell Drive, died Thursday, May 9th at Samaritan Hospital, after an extended illness. Born in the Town of Stillwater, May 31, 1943, son of the late Frank and Hazel Packard Russell, Sr., Bill was a Stillwater Central School graduate.
For over 40 years, Bill was employed as a staff member of the City of Mechanicville Dept. of Public Works, retiring in 2001. During his tenure, Bill was the Supervisor of the City’s Department of Streets and Sewers, and over many years, was the Go To Guy, when some things needed to be done. Bill was a responsible staff member, knowledgeable of all the city’s streets and sewers, and always had a pleasant personality and disposition.
A former member of the Stillwater Fire Dept., Bill was a longtime fan of the Tri-City Valley Cats baseball team, attended many games with family and friends, also a New York Giants and Mets fan.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Theresa Taglione Russell, his two proud sons William (Chelsea) Russell, Jr. of Clifton Park and David (Heather) Russell of Greenville, his faithful canine companions General Zod, Bernadette and Queenie II and several feline friends. Also his Godchild Cassie Gailor, his in-law brother Felix (Jeannie) Taglione of Mechanicville, along with many nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Frank Jr and Floyd Russell , Helen Clothier and Hazel Kipp.
A Burial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 14th at 2 PM at Stillwater Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Oakwood Veterinary Clinic in memory of William J. Russell, Sr.
