Obituary for Dione G. Fox (Whitbeck)

MECHANICVILLE - Dione (Dee) Fox, 91, of Mechanicville, NY, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband James C. (Jim) Fox, her younger brother Paul Whitbeck, and her cherished grandson Charles Cunningham.

Dee is deeply missed by her surviving family, daughters Lisa (Doug) Cunningham and Bonny (Ken Kondas) Fox, grandchildren Rachel (Rick) Longbrook, Donald (Lisa) Cunningham, Wendy (Scott) Wilson, Lara Fox-Kondas & Tessa Fox-Kondas, and great-grandchildren: Leanne Longbrook, Hailey Cunningham, Bella Perez, Nevin Longbrook & Avonlea Longbrook. She is also survived by two siblings: brother Earl (Butch) Whitbeck and sister Janice Capra, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dee lived a rich and full life that began with a childhood which took place during World War II. In the late 1950s, she was a young working single mother to Lisa, then a kind and loyal wife to Jim, with Bonny's birth completing their family. Her compassionate heart was not limited to her family, which also included her 3 siblings and Jim's 10. They also became foster parents and cared for many children in their home. Dee served for decades as a Sunday School teacher in the United Methodist church, and took delight in that role. Dee and her family had a close, warm circle of friends who knew intimately of her incredible patience and her quick wit. In her 70's, Dee became a full time caregiver when her Jim was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Her care for him never wavered all the way through his death in 2013. Dee loved crossword puzzles, the Sunday paper, her multitude of cats, skim milk, dessert, crime novels, hosting loud, large groups of people, and walking in the Saratoga battlefield.

Whether she was known as Mom, Mimi, Nonny, Nena, Aunt Dee, Mrs. Fox the Sunday School teacher (or ''hey you'' by her mischievous husband - who pretended to forget her name and to forget that she was, actually, the boss), Dee was deeply loved, and in return, she loved fully and sacrificially.

"Jesus said 'I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live' '' - John 11:25
