Obituary for Evelyn C. "Evie" Camerato (Viall)

MECHANICVILLE - Evelyn C. Camerato who would have celebrated her 93rd birthday on February 27, of S Main St, died peacefully in the comfort of her own home, on February 3, 2024, with her loving and faithful family at her side. Born in Troy, NY on February 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor Kenny Viall, and wife of 65 years of the late Rocco J. Camerato.

A St. Paul’s Parochial School and Mechanicville High graduate, Evie, as she was known by all, started her career at the former Val’s, where she was a short order cook and waitress. She later worked at Pender’s & Son Clothing store, before ending her career as a deli clerk at Sal’s Place deli.

The jobs she held were always secondary to her life as a loving wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother. She was blessed to spend her last 47 years living next to her two daughters and their families. She always made sure they were fed and had numerous snacks to pick from. She loved to bake and was known throughout the community for her holiday treats, especially her Christmas cookies and Easter bread. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, making ceramic gifts for family and friends, and was an avid bowler.

Family gatherings were also important to Evie. She loved Christmas Eve and the yearly summer parties she shared with family, friends and neighbors in her back yard. Those who knew her would express how special she was, and acknowledge the pure joy she found, providing anything she could for her community.

A faithful member of All Saints on the Hudson Parish, she was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society and also served as a counter for the parish.

Evie was predeceased by her loving husband Rocky, her parents Edward and Eleanor, sisters Eleanor Thrane, Eileen Minor, June Salmon, Mabel Carpenter, Joan Schmidt, and brothers Thomas, Frederick(“Brother”), and Edward (“Bud”) Viall.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law Pamela(Patrick ”Brut”) Sgambati and Roxanne(Anthony) Miranda, grandchildren Brad(Megan), Patrick and Marianne Sgambati, Tony(Michaela) and Marc(Shannon) Miranda, her beloved great grandchildren Gianna, Ava, Lukas, Lena, Rocco Christopher, Rocco John, and Santino, her brother Robert Viall, and several nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to her caregivers, Wendy Defrusio, Kelly Wilsey and niece Joyce Carpenter. Thank you to Dr Stephen Sgambati, Jr and staff for all the special care they provided for our Mom, including late night phone calls. Also thank you to Hospice for all their care and compassion.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11AM - 12:45PM at All Saints on the Hudson(St. Paul's) Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 1PM with burial to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
