Obituary for James T. Gipe Sr.

HUDSON FALLS - James T. Gipe, Sr, 84, died peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, on January 14, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on October 5, 1939, son of Arthur Gipe and Elizabeth Lethbridge Gipe, he was raised by his uncle, Daniel Lethbridge. Jim joined the military at 17 years old, served in the US Army from 1956 - 59, and lived the rest of his life as a proud veteran.

Jim was involved in the flooring business most of his life. He worked as a flooring/carpet installation specialist and co-owner of J&J Carpet, Clifton Park for many years. Previously, he worked for Rug & Carpet in Troy for 20 years. Jim retired from the flooring business in 2001.

A huge Buffalo Bills fan, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Jim was predeceased by his sons James Gipe Jr and Daniel C. Gipe.

Survivors include his loving children Mildred “Millie” Collette, Douglas(Mary) Gipe Sr, Sheryl(Gary) Coumbes, David R. Gipe Sr, Jeffrey(Christina) Gipe, and JoAnne(Scott) Mele, grandchildren Ashley Turco(Joseph), Alyssa Enyeart(Joshua), James Wilkinson(Shawn), Douglas Gipe Jr(Brittany), Jennifer Bartholomew(Tyler), Cassandra Gipe, Diane Bump(Charles), Chad Coumbes, Leslie LaValley(David), Anthony Gipe(Marissa), Daniel Gipe(Brittany), Brooke Bombardier, David Gipe Jr(Christina), Lawrence Gipe(Samantha), Raymond Gipe, Jeffrey Gipe(Ashley), Justin Gipe(Jazmine), Christopher Gipe(Tori), Amanda Gipe, and Kelsey Tremblay(Jeremiah), 28 great grandchildren, siblings Daniel H. Gipe, Gladys Washburn, and Sally Billings, Warren Fox, longtime friends Larry Varney Jr and Joe Salvi, his beloved grand fur-baby “Blue”, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 12-3PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A funeral home service will follow starting at 3PM. Military honors and burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery will be held on Monday at 10AM. Those wishing to attend should arrive at the cemetery at 9:45AM.
