Mechanicville resident Donal M. Rickard Jr.,69, (also known as Rick to close family and friends) who had recently fallen ill and lost his battle with cancer, passed away peacefully at his home on East St. in the company of his loving family on June 23rd 2023. Don was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Candy) Rickard, parents Donal and Florence (Mac) Rickard, and sister Jean Ann Davidson. He is survived by his children, Damien Rickard (Tony Galante), Stephanie Rickard, Robert Rickard, and Brandi (Ryan) Ray, as well as his adored granddaughter, RaeLynn McBride, and nieces and nephews.
Don was born in Schenectady, New York, on January 29, 1954. In 1971, he graduated from Auburn High School. Don continued his education at Auburn Community College after finishing high school, where he earned an associate's degree in business administration. After that, he went on to Bentley College to finish his undergraduate studies in accounting. Don, a loving husband and father, and his wife adopted their four children and fostered a number of children for over a decade.
He adored boats and sailing. He particularly enjoyed boating on Lake George where he owned a camp that he and his family spent many summers enjoying together. He also cherished all outdoor pursuits such as fishing, diving/snorkeling, hunting, and bird watching. Anyone who was lucky enough to interact with Don throughout the years was left with an indelible impression of him. Don worked as a salesman for numerous businesses, including Tracey Road Equipment, Anderson, and Komatsu, selling and renting heavy construction equipment and tractor trailers.
The family would like to thank Anna from hospice, for all of her dedicated support and help during this difficult time. As well as the nurses and doctors from Saratoga Hospital and Albany Med.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home, on July 8th from 1-5PM.
