Obituary for Darlene J. Salmon

HALFMOON - Darlene J. Salmon, 74, of Sparrow Hawk Circle, died Monday, February 20th, at Saratoga Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, September 4, 1948, daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Coons MacDonald, Darlene was a 1966 graduate of Mechanicville High School. She later attended Colona Beauty School and became a licensed beautician. She was a self-employed hairdresser for many years and owned and operated Fern’s Beauty Salon. After retiring from hairdressing, she worked for J.C. Penny Co. in Wilton.
Darlene enjoyed traveling and spending summertime at the family camp on Sacandaga Lake. She also enjoyed working with crafts, cooking and baking. Most of her life, she was alongside her husband, who was very involved with the Mechanicville Fire Dept. (MFD). For many years she had been a warrior in caring for her husband’s medical needs.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, former MFD Fire Chief Robert J. Salmon, her tow brothers, Paul (Michele) MacDonald of Largo, Florida and David (the late Lori) MacDonald of Mechanicville, her sister Cathy (Lane) Pelletier of Glenville, Brothers and Sisters in Law, nieces, nephews and their families.
Darlene gifted her body to the Albany Medical College’s Anatomical Gift Program, to help future doctors in their educational research.
There are no services scheduled at her request.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.
