Obituary for Karen M. Murphy

CLIFTON PARK - Karen Calicchia Murphy, 67, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Troy on April 17, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Carmella DiDomenico Calicchia.
A 1973 Stillwater High School graduate, she continued her education at Samaritan School of Nursing and Russell Sage earning her Bachelors in Nursing. She later attended The New School for Social Research, where she received her Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration.
In 1978, Karen founded, and became the owner-operator of, Adept Health Care Service inc., serving as its President and Director of Patient Services for 45 years. The company specializes in offering care for those who need it most, and who wish to remain in the comfort of their homes. Karen was so proud that, over the years, Adept has employed hundreds of dedicated caregivers, and has provided care to thousands of patients. Karen was committed to caring for her community. The needs of her patients, employees, and neighbors were always foremost in her thoughts.
Karen loved exploring the outdoors and tending to her garden. She enjoyed bird watching, foraging, and walking her local nature trails. She was an amazing cook, and loved to entertain.
Above all, Karen was a mom. Guiding her 4 children through their lives was most important to her, and she was the very best. She devoted her life to caring for others, but the care she provided to her children was always her top priority.
Those who knew Karen will remember her for her unwavering kindness, endless positivity, and her habitual close-talking. She was always available to those who needed her whether it be a hug, a recipe, or a helping hand. Her perpetual generosity will be missed by anyone who knew her.
Survivors include her four children: Jason Travis (Eliza Patterson), Michele Travis, Sean Murphy, and Timothy Murphy, her beloved German Shepard, Morgan the dog, and siblings Carl J. Calicchia, Jr, Christy Calicchia(Charles Antonucci), Lisa Fosmire (Michael Huston), and Mark(Erin Kate) Calicchia, as well as several nieces and nephews, employees and friends who will miss her dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16th at 6 PM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd, Clifton Park, NY 12065. A gathering for family and friends will be held in the Chapel, also at the church from 4-6PM.

In lieu of flowers, take a loved one out to lunch. Time together is precious, and tomorrow is never promised.
