Obituary for Kenneth "Tony" Yates

WILTON - Kenneth “Tony” Yates, 78, of Woodlake Drive, died Sunday, Feb 12th, at Saratoga Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Saratoga Springs, July 22, 1944, son of the late Kenneth and Ruth Rivett Yates, a 1962 graduate of Shenendehowa Central School and Siena College in 1966 with a B.A. in Economics. Soon thereafter he proudly served in the US Army from 1966-68, serving in Germany.
Tony owned and operated the former Metroland Tire Mart on Washington St. in Saratoga Springs for 25 years, retiring in 2002. He previously had worked for Goodyear Tire Co. for several years.
Tony was involved in his community, served with the Meals on Wheels program, the local food pantry, and helped community seniors with free tax preparation services.
Tony enjoyed golf, was a NY Mets fan, and always attended his children and grandchildren’s school academic and sports events.
Tony was a quiet, dependable and organized fellow, who lived a good life, was a communicant of St. Clements Church of Saratoga Springs.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Jill Ahearn Yates, his two adored children: Colleen (Shawn) Firehock of Wilton and Timothy (Colleen) Yates of Saratoga Springs, cherished grandchildren Grace, Caroline, Patrick and Catie Firehock, Fiona, Brendan and McKinley Yates. Also siblings Michael (Kathleen) Yates of Saratoga Springs, Teresa (Peter) Marchione of Round Lake and sister-in-law Carol Yates of Clifton Park. Brother-in Law of Zita LeFebvre of California and Karen (David) Stalter of So. Carolina, along with nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, predeceased by siblings Joseph, Donald and Dennis Yates and Barbara and Jack McCune, and parents-in-law William and Grace Ahearn.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, followed by military honors burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Stillwater. Visitation at St. Clements Thursday morning from 9-10:30 AM
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Siena College Development and External Affairs, 515 Loudon Rd, Loudonville, NY 12211 in loving memory of Kenneth “Tony” Yates.
