MECHANICVILLE – George C. Sebast, 88, died peacefully at Saratoga Hospital on February 3, 2023, after a series of recent health issues, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Schenectady on October 19, 1934, he was the son of the late George and Ethel Fryer Sebast.
George was a United States Army Veteran, proudly serving his country, until an Honorable discharge in 1957. He worked for the NYS Office of General Services for nearly 18 years, until health issues forced an early retirement.
A big sports fan, he especially loved his NY Giants and Atlanta Braves. He was also a huge John Wayne fan. A pretty simple guy, he found most happiness following his children and grandchildren’s lives, and was a frequent fan at his grandchildren’s athletic and academic events.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Consuello Sebast, whom he married April 27, 1974, daughters Dana and husband Timothy Coleman Sr, and Dena and husband Daniel Murphy, both of Mechanicville, grandchildren Timothy Coleman Jr and Kaitlin Coleman, special niece Danielle Mele, who George and Mary treated like a daughter after her mother died at a young age, and Danielle’s daughter Jaelyn, who grew up calling George her “Pa”, as well as several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his siblings, Harriett Parker and Everett Sebast.
George’s family wishes to offer special thanks to the staff of the Eddy Visiting Nurses, especially Teresa, along with the Saratoga Hospital D-2 Unit for the comfort, compassion, and care given to them all.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5-7PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Funeral Home Service on Thursday at 10AM will be followed by military honors and burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
