Obituary for Raymond W. Stalter

MECHANICVILLE - Raymond W. Stalter, 79 of Bancroft St., sadly died Monday, Jan 16th at his home, in the loving company of his family.
A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born Feb 8, 1943, son of the late Raymond and Helen Smith Stalter, he was also predeceased by his sister Joyce Rose.
A US Navy veteran, “Billy’ as he was called by most of his family, served about the USS Enterprise, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier on its’ world tour.
A machinist for 35 years with General Electric Co. in Schenectady, retiring in 2000. After some time, Billy got the itch to work away from home, and worked on the maintenance crew of the Fairways of Halfmoon golf course.
He was proud of his yard work, his gardening and flower beds, and shared his harvest with family and friends. Billy loved constructing a little of everything.
A past member of the Elks Club, Italian Fraternal Society and the American Legion Post 490, most of all Bill enjoyed the love and company of his family, siblings and their families.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years Dorothy Duffney Stalter, two children: Raymond and Diane Stalter of Waterford, Sherry and James DeVito of Mechanicville, grandchildren: Anthony (Jillian) Stalter, Margaret Stalter, Emily and Joseph DeVito, his loyal sister Raema and Jim Mitchell of Mechanicville, his sister and brother in law Cheryl and Bill Gorman, his best friend, grandpuppy Charlie, along with nieces, nephews and their families.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday Jan 20th at 9 AM at All Saints on the Hudson (St. Paul’s) Church. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St, Mechanicville will be held on Thursday from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Community Hospice in respectful memory of Raymond “Billy” Stalter.
