Obituary for Joseph A. LaVigne Jr.

MECHANICVILLE – Joseph A. LaVigne, Jr, 85, longtime resident of Mechanicville, died peacefully at Spring Ridge Park Assisted Living, Colorado, on November 11, 2022, where he had been living for the past three years.

Joe was born in Mechanicville on May 29, 1937, son of the late Joseph and Irene Crotty LaVigne Sr, he was a 1956 graduate of Mechanicville High School. Joe joined the United States Army, was stationed in Alaska, and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge. He worked as a train crewman for the B&M Railroad for many years.

Known as Joey, Joe-Jay or Smiley by some, you could find him heading to his favorite hot-spots where he was a member - the Mechanicville Athletic Club or the Elks Club. Besides playing cards, OTB and horse races, Joe’s biggest accomplishment was being an amazing father and grandfather. He was always there for his family through their ups and downs, and made them laugh every day.

In addition to his parents, he was sadly predeceased by the love of his life for 17 years and wife of 10 years, Norine Tracy LaVigne in 1986, as well as his brothers Maurice and Theodore LaVigne and nephews Michael and Christopher Lavigne.

Survivors include his children Tamara(Keith) Carbone, Lisa LaVigne, Kevin(Michelle) LaVigne, John LaVigne and Beth(Ryan) Dunham, grandchildren James(Eric) Rosenfield, Jenesa(Pasty) Mpiga-Tsiba, Kaelynn(Greg) Brown, Blake Barkett, Nola and Cash Dunham and Paul, Luke, Tyler, Maia, LJ, Kaleb and Mabel Kate LaVigne, great grandchildren Ezra, Aidan, Nadia, Theo, Emerik, Ara, Molly, Logan, Lily, Levyn, Layla and Layni, siblings John(Kit) Lavigne, Ann Marie Erno, Elizabeth(Jim) Luste, sister-in-law Agnes LaVigne, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Nov 18th from 4- 7PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM on Saturday, November 19th at All Saints on the Hudson(St. Paul’s), 121 N Main St, Mechanicville followed by military honors at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
