Obituary for Rita Anne Thompson (Writer)

MECHANICVILLE - Rita Writer Thompson, 79, of County Rd 75, died Thursday morning, Nov 3rd, at Saratoga Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Stillwater, March 5, 1943, she was daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Writer, mother of the late Mary Jo Fitzgerald, who died in 2021, infant son Michael, deceased siblings Diane DiFucci, Rosie Ford, Andrea “Sissy” Thompson, Ray and Mabel Writer, late husband Edward Thompson who died in 2003 and former husband and long time friend Joe Guilianelli.
Rita was a boiler room operator for the former Tagsons Paper Co, for 33 years before retiring. She had also been a waitress at the former Spa City Diner and the Grand Prix Restaurant in Round Lake.
Rita who wintered for many years in Florida, enjoyed playing bingo, scrabble and crossword puzzles. Most of all, Rita loved the company of her children and their families, her siblings and her many in-laws.
Survivors include her children: David (MJ) Guilianelli of Austin, Tx, Dionne (Matt) Welch of Mechanicville, Tanya Thompson of Gloversville, Jamie (finance Chris English) Thompson of Mechanicville and son-in-law John Fitzgerald of Florida. Also 9 grandkids: Sammi, Tabbi, Jaybo, David, Shawna, Alicia, Jess, Mikala and Nicholas, along with 8 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her feline friend Oliver Cruz and many friends locally and in Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at All Saints on Hudson Church (St. Peter’s) 895 Hudson Ave, Stillwater, with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Mechanicville.
Calling Hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville Friday from 4 to 7 PM .
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to All Saints on the Hudson Church, in loving memory of Rita A. Thompson.
