Obituary for Donald E. Campbell Jr.
MECHANICVILLE – Donald E. Campbell Jr., 73, of Arnold Ave, died peacefully at Samaritan Hospital on November 1, 2022, following a brief illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 21, 1949, he was the son of the late Donald and Anna Purtle Campbell, Sr.
Donald was a graduate of Baruch College/City University of New York, served in the National Guard, and worked for the NYS Office of Mental Health Central Office for 37 years, retiring in 2015 as Mailroom Supervisor. Don was a NY Giants and NY Mets fan and although somewhat shy, had an amazingly sharp sense of humor. During retirement, he loved spending time in Gloucester, MA and enjoyed lunch outings with friends and former co-workers. Don was very fond of dogs, especially German Shepherds, and in earlier years, neighbors could often find their pets being fed at the Campbell residence.
Survivors include his companion and dear friend of the last 15 years, Lisa Pelcher, many good friends, and several cousins on the Campbell and Purtle sides of his family.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Nov 5th from 11AM - 12PM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Funeral Home service will follow, starting at 12PM, followed by burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
