Obituary for Anna E. Downs

MECHANICVILLE - Anna Downs, 98, of Mechanicville, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 2, 2022. She had been residing at the Wesley Health Care Center for the past two years, only moving there after proudly being able to live on her own until she was 96.
Anna was born on January 17, 1924 in Brooklyn, but spent most of her youth and early adulthood in Long Island before relocating to upstate NY. In her younger years, she enjoyed taking road trips with her husband, attending church, and gathering with family. She had a passion for helping people in need and spent many of her days crocheting winter hats and scarves to donate to homeless shelters. She had a deep love for nature - especially bright flowers, sunsets, and watching hawks soar through the sky. In recent years, Anna liked to take car rides with her granddaughter where she could see the mountains while she ate her favorite ice cream - plain vanilla.
She is survived by her children Alan (Bonnie) Murawski, Barbara (Butch) Landi, Eden (Lawrence) Fisher Christopher Murawski; grandchildren Erin Fisher-Root, Joseph Murawski, Alex Murawski, Shannon O’Brien; eight great-grandchildren, and her first great-great grandchild who is due soon. Anna is reunited with her devoted husband Joseph Downs, her grandson Joseph Fisher, and her parents who all welcomed her to heaven.
She will be remembered for how she lived - as a loving mother and grandmother with quick wit, quiet stubbornness, intolerant of discrimination with an unwavering belief in treating all people with love and kindness. Remembrances may be made in her honor to the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society or Shelters of Saratoga.
