Obituary for Michael J Roman

MECHANICVILLE - Michael J. Roman, 74, of Broadway, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on July 27, 2022, with his girls at his side. Born on September 13, 1947, son of the late Walter "Coby" and Anelia Weir Roman, Michael was a 1965 Mechanicville High School graduate.
After attending SUNY Plattsburgh, he drafted into the US Army in 1969 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1971. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He especially enjoyed this time as a newlywed traveling throughout Europe with Rita.
Michael worked for the Office of the NYS Comptroller for 20 years. He enjoyed working as a bartender at local establishments throughout the years. He was a devoted member of the Mechanicville Golf Club serving on its Board of Directors for many years. He enjoyed the game, as he learned it from his father, and like a true dad, enjoyed being on the 18th hole to watch others come in off the course. He was a talented billiards player and an avid biker. Among his family and friends he was a known for his homemade macaroni and antipasto platters, was a passionate reader who spent many hours at the library, as well loving the challenge of the NYT crossword puzzle and was always available to his children to help them complete theirs.
First and foremost, in his life was his family, he loved his wife, daughters, and especially enjoyed being Poppy to his 2 granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rita Festa Roman, whom he married on December 14, 1969, daughters Nicole Roman of NYC and Renee(Craig Osika) Roman of Chatham, NJ, granddaughters Lauren Josie & Ella Drew, brother Thomas(Donna) Roman of Oswego, brother in law Peter Aalto ( Linda Devito Aalto) of Halfmoon, father in law Anthony J. Festa, sisters in law Donna Phelps and JoAnn Rocco, brothers in law David(Pamela) Festa and James(Vickie) Festa, as well as several adoring nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be Sunday, July 31st from 4-7PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St , Mechanicville , NY 12118 . A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 9AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118 with military honors and burial to follow at Saratoga National Cemetery.
