Obituary for Thomas J. Alvarez
MECHANICVILLE - Thomas J. Alvarez, 85, longtime resident of Mechanicville and later Scotia, died on July 4th, 2022 at Ellis Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Mechanicville on July 23, 1936, son of the late Arthur and Mary Kenyon Alvarez, he attended Mechanicville High School.
Tom was a US Navy veteran proudly serving his country from 1955 - 59 at which point he was honorably discharged. During his service, he was stationed in Newport, RI and also aboard the USS Charles Ware. He faithfully attended his Navy reunions each year.
Tom worked for various companies throughout his life, most recently for the maintenance department of Knolls Atomic Power Lab, Wilton.
Survivors include his wife Palma Fuschino Alvarez, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Sherry DeVito, Anita DeFelice and Lolita DelPrete.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Tom received military honors and will rest eternally at the Saratoga National Cemetery. In leiu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Legion Post 91, 327 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118.
