Obituary for Wayne S. Hess
ONEONTA, NY / NAPLES, FL - Wayne Sexton Hess, 83, peacefully passed on March 29, 2022, in Naples, FL surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Frances Scelsi Hess, daughter Bryn Michelle Hess, son Gavin Wayne Hess, sister Linda Starley, sisters-in-law Gail Hess and Elisa Zullo and many nieces and nephews and predeceased by his brother Brian Hess.
He was born in Oneonta, NY on February 12, 1939, son of the late Lawrence and Jane Sexton Hess. Upon graduating from Oneonta High School, he enlisted and served four years in the United States Air Force in New Mexico and Thule, Greenland. He went on to receive degrees and certification from the State University at Delhi, Oneonta, and Cortland. His educational career included serving as a business teacher at Laurens, Walton, and Andes Central Schools and in educational administration at Andes Central School retiring as Superintendent at Morris Central School. He also served as Councilman and Supervisor of the Town of Laurens. In his various roles throughout his life, he had many fond memories as he mutually enjoyed interacting with those of all ages.
His many talents were very evident in all his home and property endeavors including his earlier times with his corvette and boat. He will be honored, as a veteran, to rest in peace at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871 on June 21st at 2:00PM. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive and wait at the cemetery’s Visitor Center at 1:45PM.
