Obituary for Edward K. "Ted" Ryder

MECHANICVILLE - Edward K. Ryder, 69, known lovingly as “Ted” to all his family and close friends, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022 following a heroic battle with brain cancer. Hailing originally from Vermont, Ted enjoyed life to the fullest and lived every day as if it was his last. Always the life of the party and the best-dressed guy there, he had a special charm and charisma that would light up a room as soon as he entered, bringing a smile to everyone’s face, greeting all the ladies with a “hun” or “sweetie” and a kiss on the cheek, and the men with a hug. He loved his family and enjoyed special and unique bonds with every one of them. His famous Attic Club is where legends and memories were made, but as Ted would say, what happens in the Attic stays in the Attic. Ted’s favorite pastimes included casino trips to Rivers with his partner-in-crime and father-in-law Carl, listening to his favorite music, whether it was Diana Ross or pretty much anything Motown or Barbra Streisand, rotating between his back and side porches as the sun moved in the summer to enhance his signature Tedly tan, watching the Mets, and just having a greaaaaaaaaaat time.
Ted was pre-deceased by his mother, Phyllis Ryder and his grandmother, Antoinette B. Rushford, who everyone knew as “Nana”, as well as his in-laws Carl and Nancy Fabi. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Patricia (Fabi), his two children, Edward Ryder, and Megan (Scott) Phelps, his “pumpkin pie”, his beautiful granddaughter Maxine, who Ted spent almost all of his last days with her at Glendale and brought a special twinkle to his eye and smile on his face whenever the stroller rolled into his room, as well as his faithful four-legged companion, Charlie. A special thank you to the folks at the Glendale Home for taking such great care of him during his final months and Ellis Hospital Geriatric Unit in his final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 12:30 PM at All Saints on the Hudson Church (St. Paul’s), 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville, with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at the No. Main St. Church Saturday morning from 10AM til Noon.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either the American Cancer Society or Patients Activity Fund of Glendale Nursing Home, in respectful memory of Edward “Ted” Ryder.
