VALLEY FALLS - Jake Carknard, 72, of Valley Falls, passed away at Samaritan Hospital on April 2, 2022, from complications of a recent surgery. Born Harold J. Carknard, son of the late Earl and Margaret Ann (Smith) Carknard, he was a Hoosic Valley High School graduate.
Jake worked as mechanic/autobody repairman most of his life. He worked for various shops in the area and was also a self employed tradesman.
Jake loved the car world. Repairs, painting, races, demolition derbies, anything cars, he enjoyed them all. He could always be counted on by family and friends to help when it was needed. He was also a huge NASCAR fan.
Jake was predeceased by his loving companion of many years, Sandra Gethins, as well as his siblings Ricky and Betty Ann Carknard.
Survivors include his two sons, Jacob(Tegan) Carknard of Mechanicville, and Jeremy(Ashleigh) Carknard of Troy, his grandchildren Maxwell and Jack Carknard, and Emily Prouty, his sons' mother, Melissa Carknard, siblings Lisa Gage, April(James) Vorce and Constance Carknard as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 4-7PM.
