Obituary for Donald J. Hoffman

STILLWATER - Donald J. Hoffman, 91, longtime Stillwater resident, died peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital on Thursday, February 10, 2022, following a brief illness. Born in Troy on May 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Adelbert and Gertrude Hall Hoffman.
Donald worked for many years for the NYS Canal Corporation as the Chief Lock Operator at Lock 4, Stillwater before retiring in the mid 90's. He had also worked as a delivery driver for various local companies. He knew the area well through his travels and could find his way around just about anywhere. He had also operated a Gumball machine service for some time, servicing many machines throughout the area.
A generous, honest and all around kind man, he was dependable and was always willing to give the shirt off his back. He was also known for the often hilarious dad jokes he would share with the company he was in. A NY Yankee fan, he enjoyed tending to his garden at home. He was also a longtime member and elder of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Clifton Park. Most of all, Donald loved his family and cherished the time he was able to spend with them, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Phyllis Hoffman, whom he married on August 15, 1970, daughter Alonna Hoffman(Jack Nelson), son Timothy Hoffman, grandchildren Christopher(Ashley) Teal, Jacquie(James) McBride, Mathew Hayner, Cheryl(Timothy) Vredenberg and Jesse(Cierra) Hayner, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
