Obituary for David J. Walsh

STILLWATER - David J. Walsh, 83, died Monday January 3rd, at his sons Gronczniak Rd home, in the loving company of his family. Born in Troy, Jan 15, 1938, son of the late George and Alida Walsh. Dave was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, where he was a goalie for the school's hockey program. Soon after he enlisted in the US Navy, at age 17. Dave was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Leyte CV 32, as a flight crew mechanic, honorably discharged a day before his 21st birthday in 1959. He was proud of his naval service and shared many memories of those years.
He was technician with the Quality Control dept of G.E.'s Silicone Products division in Waterford for 40 years, retiring in 2000. He and crew were proud to have developed epoxy to be used in NASA's Shuttle program.
Dave, his wife, family and friends spent many summer days at their Black Lake camp McLears in Hammond, NY. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, billiards and listening to the blues. Amongst other hobbies, Dave loved working with stained glass, creating keepsakes for his family. He loved most of all spending time with those he loved creating memories…husband, daddy, pop pop, he brought love and laughter in to our lives.
Dave was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Frances "Fran" McGrath Walsh, who died in 2014, his 5 yr old son Michael Walsh and brother Donald Walsh.
Survivors include his four loving children: Michele (Liz) Walsh of Argyle, Matthew (Dawn) Walsh. Nadine Kearney both of Stillwater and Patrick Walsh, beloved grandchildren: Michael (Carly) Tedesco, Matthew (Katie) Walsh, Anthony (Morgan) Tedesco, Phalen and Kyle Walsh, and great grandchildren: Ava, Luke, Nolan, Raegan and Ryan, nieces, nephews and friends.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the Walsh family. A Burial service with military honors will be held Monday, Jan 10th at Noon at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Those that wish to attend are asked to arrive at the cemetery entrance at 11:45 AM. *Wearing of Mask will be mandatory on Cemetery grounds.*
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the community hospice team for their support and love for dad and us. Especially thankful for Anna and Karen, you brought light into a heart breaking time.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Saratoga Community Hospice or S.A.I.L. (Southern Adirondack Independent Living program, 71 Glenwood Ave, Queensbury, NY 12804, in memory of David Jackson Walsh.
