Obituary for Francis T. Kardas

STILLWATER - Francis T. Kardas, 99, of County Rte 76, died peacefully after a sudden illnessTuesday, Dec 21 at Wesley Center, Saratoga Springs.
Born in Schaghticoke, Sept. 28, 1922 son of the late William and Mary Kardas, he graduated from Valley Falls School in 1942. Later he served in the US Army in 1946-47. After his military service, Francis began a long career with the Delaware and Hudson Railroad, from working in the XO tower in Mechanicville and finishing as a CTC operator in Colonie, retiring in 1984.
A former Commander with the Valley Falls American Legion. A Life member of the VFW Post 5800 of Waterford, Francis was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Stillwater.
Francis was predeceased by his wife Helen Wilk Kardas in 2006, and his sister Sylvia Novatny, and brothers John, Albert, Edward, Joseph and Walter Kardas.
Survivors include his daughter Marilyn (William) Leeuw of Bristol, Vt, sons Edward (Diane) Kardas of Wilbraham, Mass, William (Megan Kuntze)Kardas of Georgia and Robert Kardas of Georgia, grandchildren Michael and Thomas (Katelyn)Leeuw, nieces, nephews and their families.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with military honors burial at Saratoga National Cemetery.
