Obituary for Stephanie S. Sgueglia

MECHANICVILLE - Stephanie S. Sgueglia, 83, longtime resident of Mechanicville, died peacefully at Wesley Health Care on December 4, 2021, after a several year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in the municipality of Torrice, Province of Frosinone, Italy on June 12, 1938, daughter of the late Salvatore and Costanza Stirpe, was the widow of the late Luigi Sguelglia.
Stephanie immigrated and became a proud and patriotic American citizen in 1958. She worked at the Korell Dress Factory for several years until pursuing her true passion in life, owning her own restaurant business. A talented and passionate chef who created delicious Italian dishes, she worked at Fantauzzi's in Mechanicville and La Festa Restaurant in Clifton Park. In 1980, she and husband Luigi opened The Old Mill Restaurant in Stillwater which featured her Italian-American dishes. The successful restaurant became a popular venue for wedding receptions, banquets and dinner theater until its closing in 2009.
At home, Stephanie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and sharing her wonderful Italian meals for family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband of 34 years, Luigi, she was predeceased by her brothers Dadio and Victor(Rosa) Stirpe.
Survivors include her children Elizabeth(Kevin) Louck, Kathleen(Louis) Festa and Erik Defibaugh, stepchildren Nicolo Sgueglia and Rosanne Sgueglia, grandchildren Stephanie(Amadeus) Sanchez, Erik Defibaugh, Jr., Joseph Defibaugh, Robert(Nicole) and Paul(Nicole) Festa, and McKenzie Sgueglia, great grandchildren Kaylee and Vincent Festa and her siblings Delfina Donoghue, Galliano(Sylana) Stirpe and Amleto(Lina) Stirpe as well as many nieces and nephews.
Stephanie's family would like to thank the Wesley Community staff on 2 Victoria and 4 Springs along with social worker Sue Sicard for their compassionate care giving.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Stephanie's family has respectfully requested that those attending the calling hours please wear a face mask, given the increasing spread of COVID-19. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
