Obituary for Vincent C. Russell

HALFMOON - Vincent C. Russell, 71, of Raylinsky Ln, passed away on November 26, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Troy on January 22, 1950, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Hedwig Raylinsky Russell, Sr. and brother of the late Edward J. Russell, Jr.
Vince was a standout high school and collegiate athlete. He graduated from Mechanicville High School and was a member of the 1967 undefeated championship football team that was recently inducted into the MHS Hall of Fame. He also graduated from UCONN where he starred in football and held several offensive single game records that held for many years. He graduated from UCONN with a degree in Physical Education and had taught at Columbia High School for several years.
His athletic ability carried on after school, playing on the Pruyn Hill Auto Body softball team for many years.
Most recently, Vince worked on the grounds crew at Fairways of Halfmoon for the past 22 years. At home, he enjoyed the company of his Silky Terrier "Stewie".
He is survived by his loving companion of 27 years, Rhonda Frederick as well as their son Vincent E. Russell. Also his sister Patricia(Joseph) Meyer, sister in law Joann Russell, nieces and nephews Jodi(Joe) DeMarco, Todd(Terri) Russell, Chris(Andrea) Meyer and Nicholas(Cheryl) Meyer and their families.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 4-7PM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Mass of Christian Burial will held Wednesday at 10 AM, at Corpus Christi Church, 2001 U.S. 9, Round Lake, NY 12151 with burial to follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Mechanicville.
