Obituary for Carol M. Slocum (Lane)

STILLWATER- Carol Lane Slocum, 88, former resident of Hudson Ave, passed away peacefully in the comfort of the Gateway House of Peace, Tuesday morning, November 2, 2021. Born in Hemstreet Park, February 9, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Harold and Martha Will Lane and wife of the late Lewis O. Slocum, Jr.
Carol started her working career in the invoicing office of Korell Manufacturers. Most of her working career was spent with Travelers Insurance, Colonie, where she worked as a Claims Processor. After retirement she found comfort working for Shannon's Rainbow Nursery School as an aide. Lastly, she enjoyed volunteering her time at the Stillwater School District, helping with the banking program, which helped promote financial literacy to students .
She was a longtime member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, the Star of Liberty, Order of the Eastern Star, and later in life the Halfmoon Senior Center. She enjoyed cooking, traveling the country with her husband Lew, often times with members of their Masons and Shriners friends. She was always full of life, even into her 80's. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her grand and great grandchildren.
Sadly, in addition to her husband Lew, Carol was predeceased by her daughter Cindi Zagorski in 2005 and son Doug Slocum in 2010 as well as her sister in law Eleanor Lane.
Survivors include her son Larry(Carolyn) Slocum of Stillwater, son-in-law Bub Zagorski(Donna Norton), and daughter-in-law Bonnie Slocum, grandchildren Drew(Jenn Richey) Slocum, Michael Zagorski(Charlotte Cerny), Randi(Kyle) Webber, Dan Slocum, Matthew(Aimee) Zagorski, and Dane Slocum(Kaitlin Carson), 7 great grandchildren including Ryann, Nevin, Vail, Ethan and Graham, sister Virginia(Ralph) Marra and brother Harold Lane, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Thursday Nov 4th from 4-7PM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A funeral service on Friday at 9:30AM will be held at Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Route 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065 with burial to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gateway House of Peace, 479 Rowland Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020, which provided such great care to Carol during her final weeks.
