Obituary for Dolores A. VanDetta

MECHANICVILLE - Dolores A. VanDetta, 83, of Hemstreet Park, died Saturday, Aug 14th at Samaritan Hospital, after a brief illness.
A native and lifelong resident, born Oct 8, 1937, daughter of the late Anthony and Sylvia DeVito VanDetta, Dolores was a 1955 graduate of Mechanicville High School.
Affectionately known as Aunt Dee, GiGi, Dodie or Dee, Dolores worked as an executive secretary for the NYS Dept. of Tax & Finance for 35 years, retiring in 1989. While with the State, she earned several citations from the Dept of Civil Service for her suggestive work improvements. After retirement, Dolores helped out people in her community as a home health aide and sometimes a nanny.
She enjoyed crocheting, singing and was a faithful member of the Friday Poker Club. She loved to travel and visit various foreign countries and took many a cruise with family and friends.
A lifelong communicant of All Saints on the Hudson Church, where she was a member of the Rosary-Altar Society, served as a catechist, lector, Eucharistic minister and bereavement minister. In 2012, she received a citation from former Bishop of Albany, Howard Hubbard, for her dedication and work in her parish community.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Wayne (Kathy), Irene Vanderwarker (Erin), Danny, Nicholas (Amanda), Renee Batto (Vincent) and Katie VanDetta, along with grand nieces and nephews and her feline companion Rocky. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by Anthony and Daniel VanDetta and Kathleen Higgins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 AM at All Saints, 121 No. Main St, Mechanicville, with burial to follow in her St. Paul's Cemetery family plot.
Calling hours at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM.
