Obituary for Marion R. Higgins

MECHANICVILLE - Marion R. Higgins, 95, of South Main St., died Friday morning, July 30th, at home, in the safe and loving company of her family, after an extended illness.
A native and lifelong Mechanicville resident, born Sept 21, 1925, she was daughter of the late Austin and Lucy Nolan McGuire, and wife for 42 yr of the late William E. Higgins, Jr, who died July 3, 1991.
A homemaker, Marion, affectionately called "Meme" by her grandchildren, looked after her children, grandkids and great grandchildren, along many neighborhood kids and friends. Yrs ago, she had worked at the local school district cafeteria for several years.
An avid reader, she was a communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church, and had belonged to the Our Lady of Medjugorje prayer group. Marion's life revolved around her kids and grandkids, always there as a constant source of family values, and lastly, a Boston Red Sox fan!
In addition to her parents and husband, Marion was sadly predeceased by three children: William E. III, Daniel J. and Kathleen Higgins. Also siblings Lucy Andriano, Kathleen Pennie, Margaret Tricozzi, John, Austin, Joseph, Thomas and Michael McGuire.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Ellen (Michael) Monahan of Westtown, NY , sons Terence (Lori) and David (Eileen) Higgins both of Mechanicville, daughter in law Barbara Higgins, and sister in law Liz McGuire, 16 grand and 22 great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews and families.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 No. Main St, Mechanicville, with burial to follow in St. Paul's Cemetery.
Calling hours at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St, on Monday from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Alzheimer's Assoc of NENY or Community Hospice.
Marion's family wishes to thank Dr. Carl Sgambati and staff, along with grandchildren, especially Joe and Karla Monahan, Katie Van Detta and Ryan Higgins, for the care, concern and compassion shown to Marion these last years.
