Obituary for Carlene J. "Granny" Thompson (Allen)

MECHANICVILLE - Carlene J. Thompson, 81, lifelong resident of Mechanicville, died peacefully on July 23, 2021, at Albany Medical Center after being stricken at her home earlier that day. Born in Conklinville, NY on June 28, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Florence Allen.
Affectionately known around her hometown as "Granny", she worked as a machine operator at American Linen for many years. She also was a private duty nurse for some time. Later in life, she took great joy in being a caregiver to her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and was a former member of the American Legion Post 1644 Ladies Auxiliary. Granny was a spitfire, whose personality was much spicier than the average woman who was always known for speaking her mind. She said what she wanted to, whether you liked it or not!
Carlene was predeceased by her husband, John "Mince" Thompson Sr, her son John Thompson Jr, and siblings Irene, Wanda, Milton and Carl.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Rodriguez(Bill Mansfield), granddaughters Erica(Jamie) and Tasha(Nate) Rodriguez, grandsons Adam Thompson, and his dog Baxter whom she adored, and Leo Gargano, Jr(Emily), great grandchildren, her beloved Gage(Sway), Gianna, Kyleigh, Ava and Lennox and great great grandson Ryder. Also survived by her siblings Clint, Doug, Penny, Lisa, Barbie, Bryan and Curtis, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5-7pm at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118 with a funeral home service to follow at 7PM.
Burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery will be held on Thursday, July 29 at 9:30AM. Please arrive at 9:15am.
In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871 or the Ronald McDonald House, 128 S Lake Ave, Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Carlene "Granny" Thompson.
