Obituary for Kathleen P. Keating

MECHANICVILLE - Kathleen Pelletier Keating, R.N., N.P., 70, of Hudson River Road, died Wednesday, July 21st, at home, in the loving company of her family, after an extended illness. Born in Franklin, NH on January 20, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Helen Pelletier.
Kathy was a 1969 graduate of Notre Dame High School, Schenectady and continued on to SUNY Plattsburgh where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also earned her Master of Science in Nursing with high honors from Russell Sage College in 1983. She had a prolific career in nursing, specializing in pediatric care, working in the Albany Medical Center and St. Peter's Hospital NICU and also as an instructor nationally, sharing her expertise in Developmental Disability Nursing. Holding a multitude of titles throughout her career, Kathy retired in 2010 as the Director of Nursing and Health Services for the NYS Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities. In 2011, she was awarded the DDNA Nurse of the Year, a recognition awarded to one nurse per year nationwide.
Strong in her catholic faith, Kathleen was a longtime member of All Saints on the Hudson Parish, active in its choir and its Bereavement ministry known as the Lazarus group. She was also very active in her children's school activities, including academic, athletic and musical events. She was a member of the MHS Soccer Booster Club, the PTA, and was an integral part of the MES playground fundraising campaign in the mid 90's. At home, she enjoyed gardening and loved traveling with her family, having visited each of the world's 7 continents.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, John P. Keating, whom she married June 24, 1972, her daughter Elizabeth Louise Keating of Mechanicville, son Neal Scott(Emilia) Keating, of Springfield, VA, her brother Kenneth(Christie) Pelletier and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 infant brothers Raymond, Lawrence and Jeffrey.
Calling Hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Friday from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 North Main St., Mechanicville, with burial to follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in loving memory of Kathleen P. Keating.
