MECHANICVILLE - Robert E. Carney, 67, of N Main St, died peacefully on May 28, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital after a sudden illness. Born in Troy on January 24, 1954, son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth "Betty" Carney, he was a 1972 graduate of Mechanicville High School.
Bob worked as a truck driver both locally and throughout portions of the Western United States. He lived and worked in locations such as California, Arizona and Utah.
He was a longtime member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 490, Stillwater, who enjoyed his visits there, sitting and keeping company with friends he made along the way. He was also an avid golfer in his youth.
Bob recently lost the love of his life, his wife Florence, to Huntington's Disease. He was devoted to her care and comfort over the past 6 years.
Survivors include his children Courtnee(Ryan) Poelman and Robert Carney of UT, Joseph(Tammy) Carney of CA, 9 grandchildren, siblings Michael(Anita) Carney of FL, James "Chas" Carney of FL, Joseph(Janet) Carney of Mechanicville and Marybeth(Brian) Sankel of Halfmoon as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 4th from 10AM to NOON at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A funeral mass will follow at 1230PM at All Saints on the Hudson Church(St. Paul's), 121 N Main St, Mechanicville, NY with burial to follow in St. Paul's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Mechanicville Area Community Services Center(MACSC) Food Pantry, PO Box 30, Mechanicville, NY 12118 in respectful memory of Robert E. Carney.
