GANSEVOORT - Patricia Anne Castledine died on May 12th after a long battle with cancer, she was 81.
Born in Webster, Massachusetts on September 30, 1939, daughter of John and Edna Todd.
Patricia lived a full life including many travels and adventures across the country before calling the Saratoga Springs area her home. She recently retired from a long career at The Saratogian newspaper and as a mutual clerk at Saratoga Racecourse. Her passion and love for thoroughbred racing drove her to become a minority owner in a racing syndicate which brought her great joy. One of the highlights of her life was standing in the winner’s circle at Saratoga when her horse Funny Honey won! She was also an avid boater and enjoyed water skiing. She was a longtime office employee of The Boston Store in Latham, New York.
She was a dear friend, companion, and nurse to singer Kate Smith. She was present in Washington D.C. in 1982 when Miss Smith was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and met President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan. She traveled to Lake Placid, NY, Raleigh, NC, and Manhattan, NY with Kate until her death in 1986. Patricia was a member and President of the Kate Smith Fan Club.
Patricia leaves behind her beloved and faithful Golden Retriever, Nuggett, whom she cherished.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and many adoring great-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Edna and John and stepfather Edward Castledine Sr, stepbrother Edward Castledine Jr., and sister-in-law Elizabeth Castledine.
Services will be held graveside at the Maplewood Cemetery in Saratoga Springs on Monday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home in Mechanicville, New York.
