OBITUARY

MECHANICVILLE - Michelena Mary (Mickey) Mastrianni, an unforgettable character to all who knew her, was born on June 1, 1929, in Mechanicville to Jerome George and Theresa Mastrianni, in the house on Hulin Street where she lived her entire life. Mickey passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, after a short stay, early Wednesday morning, May 5, 2021, at 91 years of age. She graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1946, Russell Sage College in 1950, and retired at age 62 from Samaritan Hospital in Troy, where she spent her entire career as laboratory technician manager. Mickey loved her work but also treasured her retirement which gave her more time for family and friends, for endless shopping excursions, to play golf at Mechanicville Golf Club, to watch her beloved New York Yankees on TV, to enjoy family vacations on Cape Cod, and to plan and attend alumnae events at Russell Sage. Most of all, Mickey fiercely loved her family. Nothing made her happier than an overflowing house for her annual family gatherings on Thanksgiving, Easter Sunday, and her birthday. She was not only a dedicated aunt but also a faithful friend and neighbor who especially loved to give gifts to and laugh with her 24 surviving nieces and nephews, 36 great nieces and nephews and 25 great-great nieces and nephews. Her survivors also include her sisters-in-law Joan Mastrianni Doyle and Donna Mastrianni. Mickey was pre-deceased by her parents; by her brothers Saverio (Dr. Sam), Benedict (Dr. Ben), Jerome, and Francis Mastrianni; and by her nephews Sammy and Frank Mastrianni. She was a lifelong parishioner at Assumption Church (now All Saints on the Hudson) in Mechanicville and took her Catholic faith very seriously. In her last years, she received devoted care at home from Jackie Piroli and Judy Zappone Noonan in particular. Mickey’s generosity, fairness, unwavering faith, dedication to family and friends, love of celebrations, special love for babies, deadpan humor, and truly unique personality made a mark on this world. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 11, from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at DeVito Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 South Main St., Mechanicville. Directly following at 1 pm will be a funeral Mass to celebrate Mickey’s life at St. Paul’s Church, 121 North Main Street, Mechanicville. Due to Pandemic protocols, mask wear and social distancing will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mickey Mastrianni to All Saints on the Hudson/St. Paul’s Church, Mechanicville, NY 12118, or to Russell Sage College, 65 First St., Troy, NY 12180, http;//www.sage.edu/alumnae-i/giving/.
