Obituary for John R. Horn

SCHENECTADY - John R. Horn, 75, of Chester St., died peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Mechanicville on February 25, 1946, son of the late Charles and Anna Spence Horn, he had attended Mechanicville High School.
John joined the US Army in 1967 during the Vietnam War where he was stationed and spent over 7 months, and received his honorable discharge in 1969, receiving the Vietnam Campaign, and Service Medals. Once home he briefly worked at the D&H Railroad and later began and ended his working career at General Electric, Schenectady, where he worked as a machinist.
He was a member of the George H. Scott Hook & Ladder Co in Coxsackie, longtime member of the VFW and American Legion, was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed trips to the Racino. He also loved the several canine companions he had throughout the years.
Survivors include his longtime companion and fiancé Sandra Houston, daughter Tina Lampron, grandchildren Tyler, Nikolas and Mason Lampron, great grandson Baron Lampron, brother Donald(Cindy) Horn, step daughter Robin Viscusi, Sandra's daughter Schlonda Sims and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Frances Morelli, Clara Proper, Florence Kaarstad, Margaret Brior, Patricia Horn, Anna LaPlante, and Charles, Clarence and Harold Horn.
Military Honors and burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30AM at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive at 10:15AM and wait at the visitors center.
