Obituary for Mary F. Sylvester

MECHANICVILLE - Mary Frances Angelino Sylvester formerly of Saratoga Avenue died peacefully on January 31, 2021 at the Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home, Clifton Park following a long illness. Mary was born in Caivano, Italy on February 15, 1925, daughter of Antonio and Lucia Falco Angelino and came to the United States at the age of 6. Mary was a graduate of Mechanicville High School. Upon graduation Mary worked for H.A. MacNeil Insurance Agency in Mechanicville and then at the George H. Pierce Insurance Agency in Saratoga Springs where she retired from in 1988. During her time at the Pierce Insurance Agency Mary studied at Siena and became a licensed insurance broker.
Mary was married to John “Keegie” Sylvester for 67 years and was the proud mother of 2 sons, Anthony “Chico” (Donna) Sylvester and John Jr. “Jack” (Patricia) Sylvester. Mary was the adoring grandmother of Kimberly (Dominick) DiMattina, Carly (Joseph) Trumfio, Barbara Sylvester and Angela Sylvester. She was the great grandmother of Bella and Anthony Joseph Trumfio, and Special Aunt to Sheila (Michael) Drew and Anthony “Tony” Angelino. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband John, her parents and her brother Samuel “Jocko” Angelino.
Mary was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In addition, Mary was very active in her community. She worked the Polls for a number of years, she was a Charter member of ITAM Peters-Purcell Post #21 Auxiliary where she held office of the President for 4 terms and then treasurer for 10 years; and was a member of the Rosary Alter Society and the Mechanicville Senior Center.
Mary was also a member of the Saratoga County Insurance Professionals and held several offices including that of President and the New York State Federation of Insurance Women.
A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 10-11AM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville. A funeral mass will follow at St. Peter's Church, 895 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater, NY 12170. Those wishing to attend MUST call the funeral home in advance for time and to reserve a space. Mask wearing and social distancing protocols will be in place for all services. Burial to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
In leiu of flowers and keeping with the wishes of her family, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Mary F. Sylvester.
