Obituary for Joan E. Coons (Torrance)
MECHANICVILLE - Joan E. Coons, 88, of Vosburgh Rd, died peacefully at Wesley Health Care Center after an extended illness. Born in Jay, NY on February 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Erwin and Florence Murcray Torrance.
Joan was a LPN for Plattsburgh and Saratoga Hospitals, having received her nursing education at the Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh. She also provided home care those many patients throughout her career.
Joan was a skilled knitter, sharing her home crafted items with many family and friends. She was very proud of the effort and hard work that she put into her yearly Rose beds. An avid camper, she was a member of the Weekenders Trailer Club. She was also a longtime member of Mechanicville United Methodist Church.
Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband of nearly 40 years, Robert J. Coons, who died in 2015, sons Robert Burke and Robert Coons Jr, and her sister Ruth Rafferty.
Survivors include her children: Elizabeth (Art) DeGraw of Gansevoort, Ronald (Lilibeth) Burke of New City, NY, Michael (Sheryl) Burke of So. Carolina and Edward (Carol) Burke of Halfmoon, Debra (Richard) Tremblay of Clifton Park, Nancy (David) Valcik of Rexford, Scott (Julie) Coons of Clifton Park, daughter in law Calista Coons, 21 grand and 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Private service and burial in Hudson View Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service at a later date will be announced. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Mechanicville United Methodist Church, 7 No. Main St., Community Hospice of Saratoga, 310 S Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 or the Halfmoon Senior Citizens, PO BOX 4203, Halfmoon, NY 12065 in memory of Joan E.
