Obituary for Joseph A. Mehan

STILLWATER - Joseph A. Mehan, 87, of George Thompson Rd, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Bay State Medical Center, Springfield, MA after a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Stillwater, he was born on March 13, 1933, son of the late Donald and Emma Traver Mehan.
Immediately after high school, Joe joined the United States Marine Corps and served for 3 years during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1953.
Joe worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Engineers Union Local 106, Albany. Among other large projects, Joe worked on the Northway(I87) project during the 1950-60s. He retired in 2004. Joe had also worked for B&M Railroad for nearly 10 years, working as a fireman. He was also a former member of the Arvin Hart Fire Department and St. Peter's Church, Stillwater.
Joe was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Julia "Ann" Dyer Mehan in 2011 as well as his brother Dick Mehan.
Survivors include his children Joseph(Diane) Mehan of Colorado, Donald Mehan of Rotterdam, Melinda(John) Fascia of Saratoga Springs and John(Katie) Mehan of Montana, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, brother William Mehan of Stillwater and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours on Sunday are from 2-4PM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. Masks are required and social distancing procedures will be in place. A private funeral home service and burial will be held on Monday at St. Peter's Cemetery.
