DELMAR - Keith W. Oakes, 64, former resident of Delmar, died unexpectedly at his residence on October 28, 2020. Born in Albany on December 24, 1955, he was the son of the late Charles and Marie Earley Oakes.
Keith graduated from Bethlehem High School and continued his education at SUNY where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. He would work as a counselor for several years for both the Capital Area Peer Services(C.A.P.S) group and also for Consumer Connections. He provided both in person and telephone support for individuals in need of crisis prevention.
Keith moved out to the west coast for some time where he worked in the Sacramento area as a delivery truck driver for Tonkin Torp, a beverage distributor of 7UP products.
A sports enthusiast with overwhelming knowledge of many sports and sports figures, Keith was a diehard SF Giants fan. He also enjoyed playing golf. He also cherished the times he spent with his family and the many gatherings he attended with them.
Survivors include his son Shawn(Melanie) Oakes and daughter Melanie(Michael Chambers) Oakes, grandchildren Logan, Zoey and Eleanor Oakes and Lincoln Chambers, sisters Jean Liberty and Barbara Whitcher, his nephews Charles, Scott, Dean and Neil Liberty, Mark Oakes and Todd Whitcher as well as the mother of his children and former wife, Rebecca West Oakes.
Keith was predeceased by his brothers David and Raymond Oakes.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial alongside his parents will be held in Bethlehem Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Keith in a special way are asked to make contributions to the American Heart Assoc, 4 Atrium Dr #100, Albany, NY 12205 in his memory.
