MECHANICVILLE - Roger Burdick of Mechanicville, NY and formally of Claverack, passed away suddenly on May 2, 2020 after a short illness. He was born May 7, 1931 in Hudson, NY and grew up in Stottville.
Survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Eleana (Buffy) Burdick, son Peter, daughter-in-law Holly, grandchildren Giavanna and Peter Jr. (PJ), brother-in-law Tony (Judy) Bucci, and several nieces and nephews, that affectionately referred to him as “Uncle Duke.”
Predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Estelle Burdick and sister and brother-in-law Betty (Roy) Weber.
Roger graduated from Hudson High School. He briefly served in the United States Navy. Rog worked on an egg truck, milk truck, beer truck, as a bartender, and later worked for Hudson Post Office for 36 years.
His great love for the St. Louis Cardinals began as a child at 13 years old when his dad took him to his first major league baseball game. Later in life he grew fond of watching hockey, especially the NY Rangers. After moving north to be closer to his grandchildren, you would often find him on a lacrosse or soccer field silently cheering them on.
He was an avid golfer and a member of Columbia Golf and Country Club for 35 years where he was instrumental in making nesting boxes for bluebirds throughout the course. A member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks for over 63 years starting in Hudson, before transferring to Mechanicville. Though he was a man of few words, he enjoyed having a few cold ones with friends. He was loved by some, a friend of many, but he will be missed by all.
The family is very appreciative of all the thoughts and prayers. Due to Covid-19 there will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
