Obituary for Phyllis M. Kearney (Lighthall)
SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Phyllis M. Kearney, 90, passed away peacefully at Glens Falls Center on April 20, 2020. Born in Glens Falls on July 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Freeman Lighthall and Ida Mae Sylvester and wife of the late William Kearney, who died in 1984.
Phyllis was an animal control officer/dog warden for the Town of Moreau for many years. She was also a monitor at the South Glens Falls Senior High School where she enjoyed the company of the students. After she retired, she started volunteering at Ballard Elementary School as a teacher’s aide.
At home, Phyllis was an avid reader, especially Stephen King or mystery novels, enjoyed crocheting, and also was active in bible study. Phyllis loved working with kids and pets. They gave her great comfort and she appreciated the closeness she had with them.
She affectionately earned the nickname "Ma" or "Gram".
Survivors include her loving children and grandchildren, son William(Shanda) Kearney of Glens Falls, daughter Colleen(Craig) Morrell of South Glens Falls, grandchildren Dustin LaPoint (Danielle) ,Brandon, Alex, Andrew, Adam, Emma, Kristen, and Brittney Kearney. great grandchildren Susan, Tyler LaPoint and Patrick Kearney. step grandchildren Tia and Zack Lane. Niece Paula Clear.
She was also blessed to have great friends in her life including Annie Gorrie, who was like a second daughter as well as Jackie and Vince Morrell and their family.
Phyllis’ family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Glens Falls Center, especially Dorothy Blake, Kris Brady and Jennifer Mosher for making her 3 year stay there so comfortable.
