Obituary for Theresa M. Rychcik (Oeffler)
STILLWATER - Theresa M. (Oeffler) Rychcik, 74, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Saratoga Hospital after being stricken at her home the previous day.
Born in Troy NY, January 13, 1946 she was the only daughter to the late Fredrick L. Oeffler Sr and Mary M. (Mattimore) Oeffler. She was one of six children. Sister to Edward Oeffler of Virginia, Fredrick L Oeffler Jr. of Castleton-on-Hudson, Donald (Maria) Oeffler of Green Island and sister in law Jacquelyn Oeffler of Troy. She was preceded in death by her brothers John Oeffler, James Oeffler, sister in law Bea Oeffler and her beautiful grandson Joshua Rychcik.
Theresa leaves behind her loving husband John J. Rychcik Jr. of 56 years of marriage. Four loving children, Deborah (Kyle) Kelsey of Westmoreland NY, Brian (Paula) Rychcik of Stillwater, Stephen (Francine) Rychcik of Voorheesville, Daniel Rychcik of Mechanicville. Eight beautiful grandchildren, Marybeth and Matthew Kelsey, Jordan, Zachary and Faith Rychcik, Jacob and Gabrielle Rychcik, Drake Rychcik. Sister in law to Donald Rychcik of Stillwater, Paul (Raeleen) Rychcik of Florida. Many loving nieces and nephews. Theresa had many beloved friends especially Kathy and Butch Lilac.
Theresa was educated in the Lansingburgh Schools. At the age of 14 , she met the man she would eventually marry later. A young John coming off Saratoga Lake, she was at her family’s summer camp, there they met, and their journey began. John and Tess, as John like to call her, married January 30th, 1964 and started their family. Theresa was a stay at home mom until her youngest started school. She then had numerous jobs waitressing from Howard Johnson to The Pepper Mill, to The Old Mill. She so enjoyed working with the public. She met many people who she loved, and they loved her. She loved to dance and both her and John were renowned dancers. Through the years they would find places playing “50’s” music to go dance. She would always say, she had the greatest time. She had a very generous heart. She was social, fun, willing to give her time to listen and she enjoyed being with people and would chat with whomever she met, and they would become just like old friends. She loved to cook and was a great cook. If you stopped at her home, you were sure to be fed an 8 course meal. She took great pride in cooking and shared that joy with family and friends.
But above all this, she loved her family. Her husband, children and grandchildren they were her world, her life. She cherished each and every moment. She would enjoy family gatherings, holidays, summers or just hanging out at home. She was proud of each of them. Her love for them was deep in her soul and was obvious when she spoke of them. She would say the greatest moments in her life was when she became a mom and later a grandma! She had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and love to spoil them whenever she could. They made her happy and she felt great joy. She had a strong faith in God and attended All Saints on the Hudson in Stillwater. She prayed for all and she believed things happen for a reason, even if we may not know why.
Theresa had the purest of hearts, generous of souls, a deep love for her family and life. If you were blessed to know her, you loved her, and she loved you. Currently services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held at the Saratoga National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in loving memory of Theresa M. Rychcik.
