Obituary for Irene M. Schweder (Koper)

STILLWATER - Irene Koper Schweder, 93, longtime resident of County Route 75, died peacefully on Sunday, August 4th at the Glendale Home following a long illness. Born in Rillton, PA on January 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Mazurz Koper and wife of the late Charles J. Schweder who died in 2007.
Irene worked all of her life as a professional seamstress, for the former Marshall Ray in Troy, Korell Dress Manufacturers in Mechanicville and lastly for Ursula of Switzerland in Waterford before retiring in the early 90’s. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Stillwater United Church.
At home, Irene enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends and family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A tremendous party host, her bright blue eyes were a great greeting for the many attendees who would come.
Survivors include her cherished daughters Dawn(Russell) Clark of Wynantskill, Suzanne Schweder of Malta, Dr. Charlene Alouf of Media, PA, her grandchildren Sivan Irene Alouf and Aviv Charles Alouf, brother in law Peter Bongermino, sisters in law Gretchen Koper, Peggy Schweder and Alberta Schweder and many nieces and nephews.
The last of 13 children, Irene was predeceased by siblings Chet, John, Frank, George, Ed, Julius and Stanley Koper and sisters Julia Martin, Mildred Nash, Nellie Bongermino, Josie Finkle and Wanda McDonald.
Irene’s family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the Glendale Home’s Mohawk Trail staff for the outstanding care given to their mother during her stay and to volunteers of Community Hospice for the many visits with her.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10 AM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118 with burial to follow at Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 PM.
