Obituary for Mark A. "Bear" Rose
STILLWATER - Mark A. Rose, 64, of Duell Rd, died Wednesday, March 6, in the comfort of his home after a long illness. Born in Troy, November 13, 1954, he was the son of the late Robert “Red” and Ann Curran Rose.
Mark, affectionately known by all as “Bear”, joined the US Army at the age of 19 and served for 2 years until 1976 at which point he was honorably discharged. He briefly worked for the B & M Railroad in Mechanicville but spent most of his career working as a Heavy Equipment Operator, working throughout the country on specialized machinery. He worked until his health required his retirement in 2014 while working for SpiderPlow.
Mark was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 91, Mechanicville. During his off time, Bear was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed hunting. He loved riding his Harley, taking rides on the dirt bike, and enjoyed working on all types of bikes and motorized vehicles.
Bear was a jokester and just a funny guy all around. He loved sharing stories with friends on his mostly unannounced visits to their houses, sharing coffee, laughter and good times with all.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Marilyn Phinney Rose, whom he married on October 19, 1974, his daughter Regan and husband Dwayne Anderson of Saratoga Springs, son Matthew Rose and girlfriend Stephanie Madison, cherished granddaughters Riley and Taylor Eveland, his beloved shih tzu “Buster”, sister Barbara(Butch) Izzo, sister in law Donna Rose, nephews Danny Izzo and Dave Rose and niece Amber Izzo.
Sadly Mark was predeceased by his brothers Douglas and Michael Rose as well as nephews Daniel and Douglas Rose.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Funeral Home Service will be held following the calling hours at 5PM. Burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery will be Monday at 10AM. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive and wait at the visitors center at 9:45AM.
